Turner: Panthers can be ‘explosive’ with healthy Cam

Cam Newton is scheduled to throw in all quarterback drills when the Panthers open mandatory minicamp on Tuesday as his rehab from offseason shoulder ramps up.
Talking to Albert Breer of The MMQB, offensive coordinator Norv Turner said Newton was throwing for”the previous month,” along with his public screen during minicamp is simply the next stage of the procedure.

“He has really attacked this rehab, and he’s done everything he could possibly do to return to where he is using the shoulder,” Turner told Breer over the weekend. “The rehab’s gone great. Evidently, a part of it he did on his own, a major portion of it, before we return. But since April 20 or so, when we got back, he has been completely engaged, both physically and emotionally.
“It’s been fun to see him. He is very serious about the rehabilitation, but he’s been Cam. Everyone likes being around him. He brings energy each and every day, and he’s very helpful with the young quarterbacks.”
Turner joined the Panthers last season as Carolina tried to evolve Newton’s game. The first results were fantastic, as the crime screamed from the gate along with the Panthers got off to a hot start. Alas, Newton’s shoulder issue imploded the operation, leading to the end-of-season crash.
Starting with this week’s minicamp, Turner anticipates a much better Newton in Year 2 of the plot.
“His next year in a system, there was shift for Cam this past year, change for me,” Turner said. “With the young players, their second year, we ought to see some actual growth — D.J. [Moore], and Curtis Samuel, as well as Christian [McCaffrey]. I think that we can be a really, really volatile crime, and his capacity to perform so lots of things makes it really difficult for defenses, and we’ll still mix some things in where he’s the featured ball company. We know that it begins with him.”
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday the rumblings coming from the company imply that Newton is put to”unveil” a massive shift to his throwing mechanics.
“From what I’m told this will be more of an unveiling than anything else. I’ve talked to a number of people who have watched Cam Newton throw and they’re pretty giddy,” he explained. “One of these even telling me,’You’ve got to find this. You can’t wait to find this.’
“He has gotten in a far better place physically and he’s going to make sure he’s in a position to throw the ball just like just Cam Newton can for the upcoming several years, not just this season. Seems like we’re going to see something very different from Cam Newton this week.”
First it begins with Newton staying healthy and ensuring his arm is on its way back to full strength. We get to see our first full glimpse at just how close he is this week.
